"You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you." - John 15:16 "But the Lord said to him [Ananias], 'Go, for he is a chosen vessel of Mine to bear My name before Gentiles, kings, and the children of Israel. For I will show him how many things he must suffer for My name's sake.' " - Acts 9:15 The calling is of God and the decision to respond and to follow Him is our responsibility. We cannot come to God without He choosing us and God's counsel will be fulfilled no matter how rebellious we are in responding to His calling. We see the example of Apostle Paul, who was Saul of Tarsus before his conversion, but God got his attention and later he became one of the greatest apostles of our Lord. Once called and we respond, we ought to be faithful in serving our Lord even until our physical body dies. And, again, we see a great example in Apostle Paul and several of the disciples of our Lord in the early church. Let us be faithful to our calling. Praise the Lord!
